An alumnus of the class of 1986 writes, "Strap hundreds of pounds of beef to a huge spit. Build a charcoal pit and douse with white gas. Run a wire from the pit up to the roof of Senior House. Light a roll of toilet paper on fire and slide it down the wire to ignite the roast. Eat the roasted beef the next day alongside hundreds of students, faculty, and alumni. Lather rinse repeat annually for 40+ years."

  • In addition to the obvious bits for a Steer Roast exhibit, I’d love to see pics of the wonderful Jerry Wiesner singing at a Roast in the 70s, and of the great bluegrass band Southern Rail that used to play during the meal in the 80s, ‘museum acceptable’ bits about the skits and awards (is there a master list of the MOFs, MOEs, etc.?), some audio would be great. It’s all out there somewhere, the museum just needs to put out a call to the right folks to get it.

Last spring was my 30th Roast. Too many memories to remember. See you next year.

  • I’ve got a photo of Jerry Weisner at Steer Roast from the 70′s, singing “I’m Just Wild About Ho Jo”, I think.
