MIT Museum Without Walls Project

by Allan Doyle last modified 2008-07-09 09:33

Project Update

Our project is currently "on hold". Our hope was to secure enough funding to build an MIT-wide MWOW system in time for MIT's 150th anniversary in 2011. In order to do that we would have had to have a firm commitment of resources by early 2008. Unfortunately we were not able to get to that point. At some time in the future we may try again, the idea of a Museum Without Walls is clearly one whose time will come. In the meantime, we're hoping that some other group can make progress on the concept. Our way of helping is to leave this material up and available so others can learn from what we've done and can build upon any of the ideas here. You can also visit the News Challenge web site where you will find our News Challenge grant application which contains additional material.

Project Overview

The MIT Museum is leading an innovative location-based storytelling research project, Museum Without Walls (MWOW), to put history and science in your hand and turn the world into a museum. The goal is to help reveal the hidden and the extraordinary in the MIT landscape by encouraging people to learn about their surroundings.  It begins with an Institute-based effort but the project is pioneering the development of technologies as a model usable by any institution or community.
