Verizon Wireless to open its network
Verizon Wireless makes a somewhat surprise announcement that they will allow others to use their network.
In what is big news in the mobile phone industry, Verizon Wireless has announced that in 2008 they will allow 3rd-party products to use their network. They will publish the specs needed to develop devices and applications and anyone that passes certification testing will be able to use the network.
There's no hint of pricing model. Also, more importantly, there's no hint of whether 3rd parties would have access to the location information Verizon Wireless has for E911.
