NYT: Mobile Web
The New York Times takes a look at the mobile web and some of the players.
The article provides some background about who the big players are in the mobile web space (Google, Nokia, Apple, Yahoo; Microsoft only gets mentioned as the place Zumobi spun out of) as well as some of the historical missteps (WAP, 3G) made by the carriers.
A key point is made in the article: "Industry watchers think that having started, the mobile Web will inexorably open over the next five years, solving many current problems." In other words, the so-called walled gardens available from most US mobile carriers are going away.
