MWOW Handheld Demo Update

by Allan Doyle last modified 2007-03-08 09:00

Our handheld MWOW demo is ready to be shown. We're still adding content, but the basic demo is working.

Our first MWOW handheld demo is based on the Nokia 770 internet tablet device. It knows where it is by sensingĀ  MIT's WiFi network access points. You can walk around the tour route (in Buildings 7,3,10, and 4) and it can figure out where you are within about 100ft. The point of this demo is to be able to better show what an MWOW handheld tour might "feel" like. We originally put together the MWOW introductory video to provide some of that feeling and this is the next step along the way. If you have a Nokia 770, you can install the demo on your own device if you're already comfortable with some of the lower-level technical details of doing that. We'll have another of our general update meetings soon to show the demo, but in the meantime, you can ask for demos "by appointment" by sending me email at afdoyle@mit.edu.

Technical details of the demo are posted here: https://mwow.mit.edu/trac/mwow

Porting to the N800 is progressing well. There are a few glitches but the basic demo runs.
